Aquarium Decor Smells Like Plastic
After i put everything in and before i added the water i noticed a very strong plastic smell so i am concerned my betta may be effected.
Aquarium decor smells like plastic. I am afraid it may affect my fishes in a bad way so i did not put it in the aquarium yet. I hate to break it to you but that foul smell coming from your fish tank could be the remains of a much loved fish. Recently i purchased a top fin acrylic 2 gallon aquarium and glow decor plants and gravel from petsmart. It s definitely an organic or natural smell though.
I think the material is slightly absorbent so it sucks up prime or poop. I tried to rinse it in warm water but it doesn t seem to go alway. The odor became somewhat stronger after it was it was in the tank for a day the room started to have the chemical smell. And if you have a crowded community tank a missing fish can easily go unnoticed.
The tag said aquarium safe or non toxic so i was somewhat perplexed it smelled something like spray. The decoration still makes the aquarium smell weird. But it doesn t smell like chemicals just stinky. The decoration smells like plastic but the water smells horrible like nothing i ve ever smelt before.
I use it along with an air stone when conditioning my water in a 5 gallon aquarium bucket for water changes to speed up off gassing of co2. But when i got it home and started washing it off it started to stink of acetone paint something gross. A rotting fish stinks and can fill your room with a horrible odor. I purchased a large resin decoration that had a very strong chemical smell to the extent that i thought it was toxic.
It still stinks of plastic and even the water smells from it. Does anyone know how to get rid of the plastic smell from new airline tubing. I made sure it was full of water and didn t have any air bubbles. It needs to be taken care of as soon as possible.
I rinsed everything thoroughly in cold water. I soaked it for a day and rinsed well with cold and then warm water. I just bought a new tank decoration plastic medium sized at petco. If your fish tank smells like sulfur or rotten eggs it usually means you have a serious water bacteria buildup a chemical imbalance or a problem with your aquarium pump or filter.
I just bought a new plastic plant from petco for my aquarium. The smell was gone and it did not smell like bleach i ve done this a few times i ve switched items from tank to tank and my first tank came with second hand ornaments so i wanted to be really careful personally i have never had an issue. This type of environment is stressful and unhealthy for your fish. I made a thread about it somewhere it s called stinky fake wood i think.
I have a topfin decoration fake wood that also smells. Here s hoping this is the right section and the right folks to ask.
